Gators Bring Long Ball Back Home, Host Jacksonville Tuesday 7 PM

Florida returns home and plays host to Jacksonville in Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Gators are coming off their first road trip of the season when they traveled approximately 180 miles and competed in the Savannah Invitational, Nov. 21-23.

Florida played three games in three days and posted a 2-1 record during the span.

Jacksonville enters Tuesday’s game riding a three-game win streak, most recently winning its home Fairfield Inn Thanksgiving Tournament.

Florida is the second team from the Southeastern Conference the Dolphins are playing this season. JU dropped a 75-60 decision at Alabama on Nov. 16.

How to Follow the Action

Gators vs. Dolphins: The Series

  • 4-Game Series: UF leads 3-1 (UF Home: 3-0; Away: 0-1; Neutral: 0-0)
  • Since Jacksonville pulled the stunning upset in the inaugural meeting between the two teams, Florida has won three straight in the series.
  • The last game was an 84-73 win in Gainesville on Nov. 14, 2014.

  • The Gators are listening to Coach Cam Newbauer’s approach to shooting and has told every member of the team to “chuck it from the cheap seats!” (Coach is a HUGE movie guy and the quote is from “Hoosiers”)
  • The Gators reset the program record for threes in a game in two of their last three outings. The new standard stands at 17 after the Nov. 23 performance against Savannah State.
  • The team canned 15 three-pointers vs. Richmond (11/21/17) to first break the program record for threes in a game, which was 13 at Arkansas, Feb. 1, 2009.

  • Entering Tuesday’s game, the Gators are averaging 11.0 three-pointers per game and converting at a 37.3 percent clip.
  • Thru games played Nov. 25, UF ranks tied for No. 5 in the country in threes per game!
  • TEN of the 11 players on the roster have hit at least one trey this season. Only freshman guard Tameria Johnson has yet to have one fall from deep.

What Just Happened

  • Florida used another record-setting, long-range performance and Delicia Washington’s triple-double to defeat Savannah State, 90-40, in the final game of the Savannah Invitational on Thu., Nov. 23.
  • There were a number of individual milestones and accomplishments during the game and the majority of those contributed toward Florida sinking 17 three-pointers, passing the old standard of 15 the team recorded against Richmond two days ago.
  • Florida scored the first seven points of the game and took leads of 16-2 and 22-4 in the first quarter and never looked back.

  • Sydney Searcy has started the last two games – the first two starts of her career – and she has stepped up incredibly!
  • During the last two games, the sophomore guard is averaging a team-best 15.5 points. She is hitting 52.4 percent (11-21) overall from the field, including a 9-18 effort from the three-point arc.
  • Through 31 games her freshman year, Searcy canned just three treys.
  • Searcy pumped in a career-best 20 points in the win against Savannah State, converting 6-of-12 from long range. She also dished five assists to just one turnover.
