Florida’s 13-game non-conference schedule is highlighted by an exciting nine-game home slate, as the team’s 2017-18 pre-Southeastern Conference schedule that was unveiled Wednesday.
The Gators play just one true road game and three neutral site contests during the schedule which is nearly the reverse of last year’s when the team began with a program-record 12-game road trip because of renovations to Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
The plethora of home games will give Gator fans a terrific opportunity to become acquainted with the 2017-18 Florida squad that features seven returning letterwinners, seven newcomers and a brand new coaching staff headed by Cameron Newbauer, who spent the previous four seasons at Belmont University guiding the Bruins to NCAA Tournament appearances the last two years.
Quoting Coach Cam
“We are excited to embark on the 2017-18 season and are fortunate to start out with a great number of our games at home. We have a lot of hard work and preparation in front of us before our opener on November 11th.
“Our non-conference schedule will presents us with a number of growth opportunities in competing against opponents with different styles of play. It is an extremely important portion of our season in that we need to gel quickly.
“We are posed with the challenge of facing six teams that competed in the postseason last year. In doing so, we believe our non-conference schedule will help prepare us for what we will face every night in the SEC.
“Both of the tournaments on our non-conference schedule will challenge us in a different fashion in that we will be playing on consecutive days. We play three games in three days in Savannah and then play back-to-back games during our home Gator Holiday Classic on December 20 and 21. We will really need to be mentally and physically focused in those events in order to compete with such a short turnaround time between games.â€
