Miriam Rutzen Joins Hoops Staff

Miriam Rutzen (pronounced: RUT-zen) has officially joined the Florida women’s basketball staff as a program’s recruiting specialist, Coach Cameron Newbauer announced today.

Rutzen earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University in June of 2013 and has been pursuing a master’s degree at Liberty University where she has been serving as a graduate student manager since August 2017.

  • Substitute Teacher and IEP (Individualized Education Program) Specialist â€“ West Central School District, Biggsville, IL (Sept. 2013-May 2014, Dec. 2016-May 2017)
  • Director of Basketball Operations â€“ University of Colorado (Aug. 2014-March 2016)
  • Basketball Camp Director â€“ West Central School District, Biggsville, IL (Summer 2013, 2016)
  • Founder and Director â€“ Reaching for the STARS Basketball Academy, Oquakwa, IL (Summer 2010 – present)

 

Just for Fun

  • Has visited 49 of the 50 United States (you’ll have to ask her which state she has yet to visit!)
  • Explored more than 26 different countries
  • Served as a camp co-director and organizer, a missionary coach and basketball player in Europe
  • Volunteered with International Missions Organizations that took her to Europe, Asia, South America and Africa
  • Replaced on the UF staff Christine Clark, who was her teammate at Harvard (Clark took an assistant coaching position at Belmont University)
  • Four-year letterwinner (2009-13) at Harvard, where she graduated with 99 blocked shots (fifth-most in program history) and played in 107 games (eighth-most in program history)
  • Valedictorian at West Central High School
  • A native of Blandinsville, IL
