Former University of Florida women’s basketball guard Funda Nakkasoglu and returning redshirt-senior Zada Williams are among 33 Gator student-athlete graduates to be honored at Saturday’s summer commencement ceremony in the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
Nakkasgolu completed her graduate studies in management this summer and departs Gainesville with two diplomas as she also earned a bachelor’s degree in economics in 2018.
She is one of seven UF student-athletes to receive their master’s degree this weekend.
The Lake Wales, Fla. native, Williams, has earned her bachelor’s degree in African American studies and is one of seven graduated student-athletes slated to further their academic and athletic careers in 2019-20.
Nakkasoglu, who led the Gators in scoring in each of her two seasons with Florida, departed the NCAA ranks with 2,047 career points. A lethal long-range shooter, Nakkasoglu averaged 15.8 points per game over 57 games with Gators, finishing with a program-best 39.6 percent shooting mark from three-point range.
Nakkasoglu now plays professionally with Galatasaray S.K. of the Turkish Women’s Basketball League.
One of two seniors on the 2019-20 squad, Williams led the team with a .476 shooting percentage and averaged 8.0 points per game along with 4.8 rebounds a season ago. Williams, who tallied 11 double-figure scoring games and earned 13 starts, is one of seven returners on this season’s unit.
