Florida women’s basketball senior forward Zada Williams has been named to the SEC Community service team the league office announced Wednesday.
This marks the 22nd year for the SEC Community Service Team for women’s basketball as well as for men’s basketball.
The fifth-year senior helped spearhead the team’s community service initiative this year. A mainstay in the team’s trips to various elementary schools, retirement homes and food banks, Williams set a great example for not only her younger teammates but to children across the Gainesville area.
On many occasions the native Floridian addressed classrooms full of children and even led demonstrations. One of the team’s goals was to visit one school per week in the months leading up to the season and Williams was a constant presence on these trips.
Williams, who graduated this past summer with an undergraduate degree in African American studies, is pursuing a certificate in sport management this season in her fifth year of competition after transferring in from Miami.
In addition to the many school visits, Williams and her teammates spent their Thanksgiving helping serve families at the Ronald McDonald House.
The six-foot-two forward, who was recognized this past Sunday as part of the team’s Senior Sendoff, is also a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member.
“Zada’s leadership extends far beyond the court and we are very proud of the way she represents our program. We are blessed to have such a great community surrounding us here in Gainesville and Zada takes every opportunity to give back with her engaging personality. As a program, we want to get out and serve as much as we can. Zada is very intentional with her time as a student-athlete and is selfless with her energy to bless and serve throughout the community.”
In addition to her excellence off the court, Williams has put together her most impactful season on it as she leads the team in double-doubles (7), rebounds (7.4) and ranks third in scoring (10.4).
Williams and the Gators will host their final home game of the regular season Thursday night when they host No. 1 South Carolina.
