Florida’s opponent for the 2022 Jumpman Invitational has been revealed. The Gators’ men’s and women’s basketball squads will each meet Oklahoma in the inaugural year of the event.
The Florida men will face-off with the Sooners on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 9:30 p.m. ET while the women will follow at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
The Gators, under the direction of first year head coach Todd Golden, return eight athletes from the 2021-22 campaign, including All-SEC honoree Colin Castleton who averaged 16.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
Meeting for just the fifth time in the history of the series, Florida is 2-2 vs. the Sooners, with Oklahoma taking the most recent meeting last season in Norman.
On the women’s side, Florida is coming off of their best season since the 2016 campaign, ending the year with a 21-11 (10-6 SEC) mark that pushed them into a tie for fourth place in the Southeastern Conference. Their efforts, which included victories over five top-25 teams for the first time since 2006, earned the Gators an entry into the NCAA Tournament as the No. 10 seed in Storrs, Conn.
December’s meeting between the two squads will mark just the second meeting in program history, with the Gators taking the first and only matchup, 80-61, at Oklahoma on Dec. 3, 2017.
The Jumpman Invitational, announced in July 2021, will feature both men’s and women’s schools from the original four Jordan Brand schools: North Carolina, Florida, Michigan and Oklahoma.
The games will be played at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center, home of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets are owned by six-time NBA champion Michael Jordan.
“With six of the eight teams competing in last year’s NCAA tournaments and their programs’ collective storied history we believe the Jumpman Invitational presented by Novant Health will be a premier basketball event not just this year, but in years to come,” said Danny Morrison, executive director of CSF. “We look forward to welcoming the players, coaches and fans to Charlotte for what will be a first-class experience.”
