Florida basketball’s Liv McGill has earned a gold medal alongside the 2024 USA Women’s U18 National Team. The victory comes Sunday evening after defeating Canada 80-69 in the AmeriCup finals.
McGill was named to the elite U18 5×5 team in May. The 12-member roster trained at the USA Olympic headquarters in Colorado Springs, as they prepared for the start of the FIBA Women’s U18 AmeriCup in Columbia.
The FIBA U18 AmeriCup tournament kicked off on Jun. 17 with the United States defeating Brazil 97-51. From there the USA Women’s U18 National Team tallied another four victories to clinch a spot in the gold medal matchup.
Throughout the tournament, Liv McGill tallied a combined 21 points, 13 steals, and 20 assists wearing red, white, and blue. In the United States’ matchup against the Dominican Republic, McGill shot 80-percent from the field, marking her tournament best. McGill also finished out her time in Columbia averaging 16 minutes on court, significantly making an impact on team USA’s success.
The USA women now own 12 of 14 gold U18 medals and have tallied 11 consecutive titles dating back to 2000. With USA’s first place finish they have also secured a spot in the 2025 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup.
