Gators at the Games: All-Time High 40 Gators at Paris Olympics

The City of Light will have a Gator presence for 2024 Summer Olympics competition.

It’s an all-time high of 40 Gators in the 2024 Summer Olympic contingency. Florida stands No. 4 among the nation’s collegiate programs. There were 39 Gators at the 2008 Beijing Games and 35 in 2020.

In addition, five Gator coaches are in Paris, with one competing for the U.S.

Gator Olympic medalist Elizabeth Beisel will help the NBC coverage. Two former Gator swimmers are also with Team USA – current UF team physician Dr. Katie Edenfield is team doctor for U.S. Swimming and six-time NCAA champion/Gator Great Julia Gorman is the open water swimming physical therapist. 

Competition Schedule:
By the time of Friday’s opening ceremonies, competition will have already taken place for a pair of Gators. Canada’s soccer roster includes Gator Adriana Leon. Deanne Rose is with Canada in Paris as a replacement athlete:

Florida’s Paris Roster Review:

  • 40 Gators qualified to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games
  • The 40 qualifiers is all-time high for a Gator Olympic contingency and leads the SEC.
    •  39 Gators competed in 2008, 35 in 2020, 34 in 2012.
  • Gators have 2024 Olympics representatives in eight (8) different sports: Basketball (includes 3v3), Diving, Golf, Gymnastics, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis and Track & Field
  • 17 Gators are repeat Olympians: Amro Al-Wir (Jordan 2x), Maha Amer (Egypt 2x), Lloydricia Cameron (Jamaica 2x), Caeleb Dressel (U.S. 3x), Joseph Fahnbulleh (Liberia 2x), Bobby Finke (U.S. 2x), Grant Holloway (U.S. 2x), Genevieve LaCaze Gregson (AUS 4x), Adriana Leon (Canada 2x), Josh Liendo (Canada 2x), Alberto Mestre (Venezuela 2x), Alfonso Mestre (Venezuela 2x), Jasmine Moore (U.S. 2x), Deanne Rose (CAN 3x), Hakim Sani Brown (JAPAN 2x), Kieran Smith (U.S. 2x) and Emma Weyant (U.S. 2x).
  • Gators are representing 21 different countries in Paris: Argentina (1), Austria (1), Australia (1), Bahamas (1), Canada (5), Colombia (1), Egypt (1), Germany (1), Great Britain (1), Greece (1), Jamaica (3), Japan (1), Jordan (1), Liberia (1), Lithuania (1), Netherlands (1), Nigeria (1), Norway (1), United States (14), U.S. Virgin Islands (1) and Venezuela (2).
  • Florida’s 14 on USA rosters is tied for sixth among nation’s collegiate programs.
  • Gators will be competing in 3v3 Basketball for the first time. Gators have competed in following Olympic sports since 1972: Baseball, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Bobsled, Diving, Golf, Gymnastics, Judo, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Team Handball, Tennis, Track & Field and Indoor Volleyball.

Fifty-one different student-athletes on 2024 Paris Olympic teams won a total of 78 NCAA individual titles in 2023-24. Five Gators lead those Olympians with 13 NCAA 2023-24 individual titles.

  • Florida’s Jasmine Moore is the first U.S. woman to qualify for both the long and triple jump in a single Olympics. In 2022, she also was the first to achieve this feat at the World Athletics Championships.
