Executive Board

The executive board is comprised of the Board Members, who are part of the BCC membership, and Advisory Members, who are non-members and non-voters. The Board Members are nominated by general membership. The Nominating Committee creates a slate of officers for general membership voting approval. The Board Members’ term starts on July 1 of each year and lasts for one year.

The End of the Year Banquet was held April 17, 2013 in the Gator Room inside the Heavener Complex. This year’s program was emceed by the players.

As usual, the food was delicious and plentiful. Dig in Coach Page!

This was the last banquet for senior Jennifer George and she spoke for a few minutes reflecting on her time here at the University of Florida. We will miss her and wish her the best at the next level.

Every year, one of the BCC members creates and shares a memory book with each senior. Here we see members and Jennifer perusing her book that looks back at her four years playing for UF.

Carly Needles received the Unsung Hero Award. As a special recognition, the team, represented by Christin and Lily, presented the BCC with a second Unsung Hero Award! Wow! What an honor! It has been and will continue to be our pleasure to support the women’s basketball team. We are always ALLIN!

A senior year is filled with lots of hopes and promises. Being the lone senior means you’re the face of the team. Being the lone senior, playing with pain, and nearing the end of your collegiate career means you’ve encountered, and learned to play through, adversity. As the face and leader of this team, you’ve made us proud.

Jennifer George, thank you for being a Gator. Thank you for four years of great basketball. You’ve left your mark here at the University of Florida and on us, your biggest fans. Our sincerest wishes for a wonderful life after Florida basketball.

Go Gators!

We left Gainesville at 9am on Saturday, stopping along the way to eat lunch, and arrived in Auburn full of excitement for the game to come.

A group of us ate dinner together at a nearby Italian restaurant before meeting up with the team to say hi!

Game day! “High-five” line to greet the team as they return from shoot around. Oh yeah, we stayed at the same hotel as the team…perks of being a Gator Backcourt Club member.

While in Auburn had to stop by Toomer’s Corner…so, sad. Reggie, the best bus driver, drove us by the trees so we could take what will be one last look at them. Bill served as our tour guide…the trees were poisoned by an over zealous Alabama fan and will be removed in April 2013.

We were so pumped when we finally arrived at Auburn Arena. What a wonderful basketball venue. Gators fans were ready to cheer our team to victory.

And did we cheer. You might have heard us on ESPN3 or on the radio. Christin Mercer’s brothers joined us and brought some terrific energy…these boys are a lot of fun to be around.

We’re liking the score…Go Gators! What a really good road win for our team. Glad we could be there to share it with them.

After the game it’s time to gather on the court and enjoy the win with players and coaches. It’s great to be a Florida Gator!

What a fantastic trip! Truly fun. Thank you BCC members and Gator fans for making it such a success! And thank you to the people of Auburn for being so hospitable to us. Yes, we’ll want to do this trip again. And yes, we will win again!

We were fortunate to have two speakers address the group.

Darlene Werhnyak, above, described how she was asked by Dr. Ruth Alexander to coach the first Florida women’s team – which began as a club team. We sometimes forget just how difficult it was for our early “Lady Gator” teams. These first coaches and players truly paved the way for those who followed. We thank you!

Sarah Lowe, above on the the right, also spoke to our group about her experiences playing Gator basketball and how that influenced her life afterwards. Her achievements are many including being a co-founder of Kujali International, a non-profit organization which works to provide life-changing educational opportunities to disadvantaged youth in East Africa. Her success after graduating from the program makes Gator Nation very proud!

We did mention the food, didn’t we? As a famous cook once said, it was “Yummo!”.

Coach Page also got in a word or two. She is both our coach and an alumna. How special is that?

Oh and the game that took place later that day…the Gators killed Bama!

Thank you alumnae and members for such a special time!

A fun part of the evening was playing “Cranium” with the team. Members competed against players in a very close game. Who won, you ask? If you were there, you would know. If not, come next year!

Have dinner with Coach Butler….at her home! This year we have a very special silent auction. The winner(s) will enjoy a catered dinner with Coach Butler at her home. How special is that!  This is a fantastic opportunity to sit down with Coach and have an extended conversation about basketball or wherever the conversation takes you.

For such a unique opportunity, the winning bid must be at least $1000. And, to make this more possible for folks, we are allowing up the six members to pool their resources to meet the magic target of $1000. This kind of opportunity doesn’t come along very often – dinner with Coach at her home – wow!

This silent auction is open ONLY to BCC members! The bidding sheet will be available at all BCC events with the last date to bid being March 3, 2013.

The proceeds from this auction helps the Gator Backcourt Club support Florida Women’s Basketball!
